Hot Chip

Hot Chip
Cambridge Corn Exchange, The
Hot Chip are best described as quirky, original, electro-pop fusion. They won the prestigious Ivor Novello award for their breakthrough single 'Over and Over'. These chart toppers are back on tour and live in Cambridge this October

Hot Chip's recently released long player ‘Made in the Dark' is heavily informed by 2 years of touring and as a consequence Hot Chip have become a meaner, more Balearic proposition with their songs taking on wilder and rawer forms while never deviating too far away from their signature pop aesthetic.

Hot Chip released the critically acclaimed third album ‘Made in the Dark' in February 2008. It flew straight into the top 5 and the contagious single ‘Ready For The Floor' crash landed into the top 10 where it remained for several weeks to become their biggest hit to date, already surpassing sales for the Ivor Novello award winning ‘Over and Over'.

The Ukulele Orchestra Of Great Britain

The Ukulele Orchestra Of Great Britain
Cambridge Arts Theatre
Giving you one plucking thing after another since 1985!

‘Worth travelling a thousand miles to hear' Independent

The cult orchestra of all-singing, all-strumming ukulele players returns to Cambridge with their own unique brand of live entertainment!

A concert by the Ukulele Orchestra is guaranteed to be a funny, virtuosic, twanging, awesome, foot-stomping obituary of rock ‘n' roll and melodious light entertainment, featuring only ukuleles - little ones, big ones, high ones, low ones, with not a twang incongruous - alongside a menagerie of voices in a collision of post-punk performance and toe-tapping oldies. No guitars, no drums, no pianos, no backing tracks. And certainly no banjos.

No style is sacred, no genre untouchable - from Tchaikovsky to Nirvana via Otis Reading, the Orchestra take you on a world tour with only hand luggage.

You may never think about music in the same way once you've been exposed to the Ukes' depraved musicology!

‘The best musical entertainment in the country' Independent

WARNING: May contain seriously good music!

The Displacements

The Displacements
Soul Tree
'pThe love-battered romance of a mid-teen Morrissey, the flat-capped indie twinkle of The Housemartins' says the NME, who also said - "The Displacements, who resembles the Buzzcocks with an even softer heart, yet who rock like their lives might cease the moment they discover the fourth chord. Really, that's all we ask."

The Displacements, made up of school friends and brothers, Andy Stone, Nick Eversfield, Joe Wilson and James Stone are taking the music scene by storm.

After two sold out limited singles on legendary record label Stiff Records, tours with The Enemy, Glasvegas, The Courteeners and The Twang, and latest single Down and Out selling over 1500 copies before it was officially released, 2008 and beyond will be theirs.

The Rascals

Junction 1, The

This event is rescheduled from 29 September. Tickets purchased for the original date are still valid.

Out of the ashes of The Little Flames, who did more than their fair share of Green Mind shows, has risen The Rascals. Mixing 60s beat groups with influences ranging from dub to more cinematic sides, they're more than just a band whose singer collaborates with 'im from the Arctic Monkeys.

Goldfrapp

Goldfrapp
Cambridge Corn Exchange, The
Sublime pop magicians Goldfrapp visit the Cambridge Corn Exchange in October as part of their brand new UK tour.

This year has seen Goldfrapp cement their reputation as one of the best and most thrillingly inventive British live acts around.

Starting the year with unique acoustic show at London's Union Chapel through to spectacular main stage/headline performances at Glastonbury and Lovebox, the band have wowed audiences across the UK and Europe this year.

Live highlights so far include special performances at Royal Festival Hall and Royal Albert Hall complete with orchestra, choir and full band, and the Goldfrapp dancers - pole dancing lovelies and the surreal Rag Men - who thrilled and amused in equal measure. Their sold-out UK tour in June culminated with an electrifying Royal Albert Hall show that saw 5,000 people joyously singing along to recent hit single ‘Happiness'.

Goldfrapp have also become a firm favourite on the international festival circuit with memorable performances at Sonar, Roskilde and Coachella amongst others.

The Shills

Forged out of a sense of shared frustration and lack of purpose, The Shills were formed by brothers Tom and Olly Yates and childhood allies Dickon Collinson and Brian Zielinski-Smith. Six months into their musical collaboration they enlisted the talents of Rob D'Ath and set about creating an engaging, evocative and compelling sound. The Shills have combined the subtlety and poetry of The Smiths, with the vitriolic passion of the Manic's, and believe they will soon be catapulted out of their emasculating surroundings and into the minds of many.Starting with gigs around Cambridge in 2006, they subsequently recorded a demo, ‘The Flightpath Sessions’, which led to radio play and gigs supporting New York’s Five O’clock Heroes, Leeds based Kid Id and Johnny Panic.
